Keramas will once again play host to a selection of the world's best surfers this year as plans come together for the Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys. The event is shaping up to be one of the best 1-Star Qualifying Series (QS) events in ASP history and will feature former ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) competitors Dean Morrison and Nathan Webster alongside up-and-comers Kai Hing (AUS), Oney Anwar (IND), Mitch Parkinson (AUS) and Alex and Koa Smith (HAW).

Made Widiarta from Kuta, Bali is the current Asian Surfing Championship (ASC) rating's leader after taking out the second last event in the Maldives and is looking forward to bringing that momentum into his hometown event.

"I'm just stoked the ASP is bringing back the QS to Indonesia,” Widiarta said. “Even though it's a 1-Star we are all pretty excited about it and hope this is the start of more QS events coming to Bali and throughout Indonesia. Indo has so many good waves and good surfers and we want the world to see.”

Tony Cannon, co-owner of Komune Bali is doing everything in his power to make the inaugural Komune Bali Pro a success for the surfers and the fans. The ideal dates have been selected, a world-class event site is being set up, the beach club is ready to cater to the spectators and a webcast will look after the fans online.

“The dates for the Komune Bali Pro were carefully chosen to provide the best opportunity for running the five day event on an optimum tide and moon scenario,” said Cannon. “There's a full moon on the first day of the event and some big tidal amplitude in the contest window so hopefully we'll see a big push in the swell on the incoming tide on each day of the event.”

“The conditions for night surfing expression sessions and practice will also be optimum with the full moon and tides coming in again during the evening. Komune and our presenting sponsor The Mad Hueys, have brought in some great Aussie and local DJs to provide non stop entertainment for the duration of the event which we hope will rival last year's WCT in terms of spectator numbers." Cannon added.

Nick Vasicek, No. 2 on the 2014 Queensland Championship Circuit is in countdown mode for this highly anticipated event as it's a chance to surf in his sponsor's event, at one of the best waves in the world with just three other surfers in the water.

“I'm really pumped for the Komune Bali Pro,” Vasicek said. “I pick and choose my events these days and I feel like Keramas suits my surfing and I'm really looking forward to this event. Keramas is one of the best barrel waves in the world. I still remember a Pro Junior in 2008 or 2009 we had 8 to 10 foot waves everyone getting 10-points-rides, it was unbelievable. The Mad Hueys have grown a lot lately, they are the perfect fit for an event like this with the Komune pool and DJs and great waves. Some of the Indo guys have been stepping up and will be great to see in the event and also the Smith (Alex, Koa) bothers from Hawaii will be ones to watch.”

The Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys offers both ASP QS and ASC points to all surfers. The event has teamed up with Garuda Indonesia as the official airline partner and GoPro as the official camera of the event.

The event will run from October 8 - 12 and will be webcast LIVE here.
